I can’t even keep count of how many times I reach for my lip balm to apply it daily. Is it because I need it? Not necessarily anymore, but it’s an ingrained habit that I formed several years ago.
I consider myself to be a self-proclaimed lip balm addict! I’m owning it! I have one in my purse, my pocket, in the car, on my side table and my nightstand - annnd I am sure I am missing other spots where I have them stashed. The point is I CANNOT go anywhere without one.
But I began to notice that it didn’t matter how many I had, or how many times I applied it in a day, my lips were cracking and bleeding. I thought that maybe it was the brand I was using so I tried Chapstick, Nivea, Carmex, Vaseline and many others and much to my disappoint my results didn’t change.
So just like with the lotion, I began looking carefully at the ingredients. I read things like petrolatum, parabens and mineral oils….sounds okay enough and minerals are good for you, right?
I was beyond wrong with this assumption. These 3 ingredients have been known to be addictive and have carcinogenic agents. Great, so not only am I licking poisons off my lips, I’m addicted to licking poisons off lips.
Something had to change. Lip balm was one of Sincerely Different’s first products for the exact reasons listed above. I wanted something that worked, wasn’t addictive and didn’t cause cancer! Not only does our lip balm not cause cancer, but it helps prevent cancer with the added benefit of vitamin D.
We have 9 different flavors all hand-crafted with beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, apricot oil and vitamins E and D. Try it out and feel the difference for yourself!
Have you ever read the ingredients list on your traditional bottle of lotion?? Have you ever read them and been able to understand them (hehehe)? It may read something like this:
WATER, GLYCERIN, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, PETROLATUM,STEARIC ACID, C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE, ALUMINUM STARCH OCTENYLSUCCINATE, DIMETHICONE, LAURETH-3, CETEARETH-20, DMDM HYDANTOIN, ALLANTOIN, METHYLPARABEN, ARGININE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, PROPYLPARABEN, CARBOMER, FRAGRANCE, PANTHENOL, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, LECITHIN…..
You are probably noticing that the first ingredient is “water”...which should not be a bad thing, right? I mean we’re supposed to always be hydrating and water is supposed to be good for our skin. So then what could I be rambling about??
Don’t get me wrong, water is the perfect liquid for you to consume but it does something entirely different when we add it to our body products. Water in our lotion causes the good oils our skin produces to evaporate off our skin and dry us out even more. So then what do we feel like we need to do? Put more lotion on - which continues to dry us out and perpetuates that yucky lizzardy cycle. (Ever wondered why you feel like you need to lotion so many times every day??? This is why!) The other ingredients in traditional beauty products like alcohol and fragrance also contribute to drying out skin which then causes your body to overcompensate in its production of oils and often leads to super oily skin. It’s a lose-lose situation!
I bet you're thinking that although this may be true, the more all-natural products I've tried have always left my skin greasy and heavy feeling. I hear you! Everyone I know was SO SICK of the hamster wheel of traditional products and the heavy and overly oily expensive natural stuff that I decided there had to be a better option and that in a nutshell is why Sincerely Different exists! Using all-natural high-quality comprehensible ingredients (shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil anyone?) paired with unique handcrafting processes, your skin will receive the nourishment and results you're looking for, with a feel that will make you think you’re still using traditional products. We also don't use those fillers so you have to buy huge containers (ain't nobody got room for that). As a result, our packaging is smaller (because it's just the good stuff) and our product goes farther because it does what it’s actually supposed to. At the end of the day, ingredients matter so give your skin what it really wants and feel the difference for yourself!
