Did you know that as an adult you should be getting between 7 and 9 hours of sleep a night? Now, how many of you just laughed at that? You’re thinking “Ya, right?! How am I supposed to get everything done and squeeze in 7-9 hours??” You and everyone else is thinking that same thing. According to the CDC only 1 in 3 Americans get the recommended sleep that they need!
Maybe you’re thinking what’s the big deal??? That you always seem to make it through the day and that caffeine is your best friend. Short term effects of your sleepless nights could include a lack of alertness or impaired memory. Maybe you're scoffing and thinking that meh, those side effects just come with getting older. But there are actually some serious potential problems associated with our chronic sleep deprivation: high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure and stroke just to name a few.
Although sleep is oftentimes overlooked, the lack of it can lead to serious stuff. Maybe you're in the camp of those that do try to get the recommended sleep, but your mind just won’t shut off.
